A wave of joy and celebration swept through Kibijjo and Kyabasaija sub-counties in Kakumiro district as the Prime Minister of Uganda, Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, alongside the district leadership, officially commissioned 49 newly constructed water points—a life-changing development for thousands of residents.

This monumental achievement was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Partners for Community Transformation (PaCT), with generous funding from our committed partners at Water to Thrive. The project marks a significant step in the ongoing mission to provide sustainable access to clean and safe water, transforming the lives of 14,778 residents who, for years, have struggled with water scarcity and its related challenges.

The commissioning event was filled with excitement, gratitude, and heartfelt appreciation from community members, local leaders, and stakeholders. Residents, many of whom had endured years of walking long distances in search of water, expressed overwhelming joy, knowing that safe and reliable water sources are now within their reach. The newly commissioned water points are more than just infrastructure—they are a lifeline for thousands of families. Here’s what this project means for the people of Kibijjo and Kyabasaija: With clean and safe water now available, cases of diarrhea, typhoid, and cholera—previously rampant due to contaminated water sources—are expected to decline significantly.

For years, women and children bore the burden of fetching water from distant and often unsafe sources. With these water points now in place, they save valuable time, allowing girls to attend school regularly and women to engage in income-generating activities.

Improved access to water fosters better hygiene and sanitation practices, promotes agricultural activities, and enhances livelihood opportunities, contributing to the overall development of the region.

This project is a testament to what partnerships, dedication, and community engagement can achieve. With clean water flowing, the people of Kibijjo and Kyabasaija now have a brighter, healthier, and more hopeful future ahead.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Uganda, the district leadership of Kakumiro, Water to Thrive, and most importantly, the resilient communities we serve
